Our message today highlights an important new role in the early church, the role of Deacons. Unlike the apostles whose primary role is prayer and preaching the Word, the Deacons are to oversee the care of the congregation. This allows the church to grow even more, but with new growth comes more opposition.

While history has traditionally seen Acts simply as stories about the Apostles – we now see the book is so much more. It is certainly an account of the eleven disciples after Jesus is raised from the dead, but even more so, it is an account of the early Christians: an account of the Holy spirit, an account of the early church, and most significantly, the account of the continued work of Jesus Christ and God Himself, bringing His living witness to the ends of the Earth through His people. So, come join us this year as we explore how the Gospel of Christ first changed the world, and as we ourselves learn what it means to let that same gospel change our lives and our world, even today.

Jesus at the last supper showed us what a servant's heart should be. As we give God more Lordship over our lives and mature in our faith, we should find ourselves dropping our selfish attitudes and moving toward a servant-like attitude toward God and others.
